Litspiration Challenge #1

For My Litspiration Challenge I chose to make a short poem. This challenge is on the book Found by Margret Peterson Haddix

Description of the short poem:

This is a poem that reflects how Jonah and Chip(the 2 main characters) feel about their adoption. I wrote this short poem, so people can feel how they felt in the book.

Imagine…
Being in a world not knowing if you belong
Asking but not getting answers about who you are
Standing alone because you’re different inside
Coming from a place so out of this world
            Not knowing your true self
Being brought from the past
            Being impaired by a decision
Having a choice to go to the future or the past

            Which one will you choose?

Description of the short poem:

This is a poem that reflects how Jonah and Chip feel about their adoption. I wrote this short poem, so people can feel how they felt in the book.

Here is a short description of why I chose each line:

1.Being in a world not knowing if you belong… Jonah and Chip are both adopted, and they always felt different inside. The world to them looked different than it appeared.
2. Asking but not getting answers about who you are… Chip always asked his parents about his adoption but he never got any answers from his parents. Chip always felt frustrated and mad.
3. Standing alone because you’re different inside… Chip and Jonah would always stand away from the mob of people at their bus stop because they new they would never fit in because they weren’t from this era.
4. Coming from a place so out of this world… Chip and Jonah aren’t even from this era. They are both taken from the past and put into the present.
5. Not knowing your true self… Chip and Jonah always wondered who they were inside. They knew they couldn’t be like their parents, but who were they really like?
6. Being brought from the past… As I said before they were brought from the past by an adoption agency from the future, that brings missing babies from the past into the present.
7. Being impaired by a decision…  People from the past give Jonah and Chip the most difficult decision of their lives. What is it?
8. Having a choice to go to the future or the past… The choice they are given is they can go into the future and live with technology, or they can go back to their rightful place in the past.
9. Which one will you choose? Here is a question for you. Read the book and tell me what your answer is. If you had the choice, would you go to the past or the future? Remember, there are pros and cons to both sides!

I also drew a quick picture of how i imagined the future and the past.

For the future half, I drew my version of a high tech city in the future, with buildings so high that the touch the clouds. And for the past, I drew an old building and a horse carriage in front of it.

  1. Hey Maanasa,
I really enjoyed how you took notice of all the different feelings the characters were having in the story to create this outstanding poem. The question at the end of your poem, "Which one will you chose" really got me thinking would I rather live in the future or stay in the past if I had a choice. This book is definitely going to go on my book list, but maybe for next time, remember to italicize the name of the book. Great job with your blog in general and the poem with the creative picture.
